An Idiot's Guide to Ultimate Silver Dragon - The /u/robaisolken Edition

Guide/Analysis

Welcome back to another Ultimate boss guide! I'm finally starting to start posting these back on track.

I kind of feel like Silver Dragon is the black sheep on the Ultimate bosses. He seems to be the one that everyone seems to forget and his "gimmick" is annoying but also forgettable. Everyone gets him.

That being said, his difficulty, while not the easiest, isn't too bad either, putting him in the middle of the pack. This, of course, adds to his forgettability. Besides, I think all of us agree that Beatrix (Ultimate) is totally a better Ultimate boss :v

  • Exploit Silver Dragon (Ultimate)'s weakness to Ice attacks.

  • Exploit Silver Dragon (Ultimate)'s weakness to Wind attacks.

Movepool:

Silver Dragon is split into two phases, Airborne and Grounded. He starts off in his Airborne phase at the beginning of the battle. In order to make him Grounded, you need to use a jump ability on him. In his Airborne phase, he is ranged, has much higher RES, and can use his only magical attack. After a while in his Grounded state (I believe this is random; will change once AI is here), there will be a warning about him switching to his Airborne state, followed rapidly by his Airborne state (this is very quick). Including his Airborne phase at the very beginning, I would expect to see his Airborne phase 5-8 times throughout the battle.

  • [Note]: ALL of Silver Dragon's attacks are ranged! Thus, rows won't matter.

Airborne:

  • Claw: Deals one physical attack on one target. Silver Dragon's default attack. It does quite a bit of damage for a generic attack, so get that mitigation up fast.

  • Scratch: Deals one physical attack on one target. Deals ever so slightly more damage than Claw.

  • Twister: Deals heavy magical wind damage to all targets. His only magical attack. If you knock him out of his Airborne state fast enough, you can forgo Magical mitigation all together, which is always a plus :)

  • Shockwave: Deals heavy physical wind damage to all targets. He spams this quite a bit throughout the battle. All the more reason to keep your mitigation up.

  • Aerial Slash: Deals heavy physical damage to all targets. Really simple but hurts very hard. However, is quite weak compared to most Ultimate bosses' "super attack." Just keep mitigation up and you should be fine. (Or... you can just jump on the dragon :P )

Grounded:

  • Retains Claw, Scratch, and Shockwave.

  • Attack: Deals one physical attack to all targets. Yeah, weird. A "default" attack that does AoE damage and has no single target version either.

  • Breath Wing (Counter): Deals heavy proportional damage to all targets, BASED ON MAX HP. 15% Counter rate. This attack is pure Bulshevik. It's awful. It's going to be your death. S/L and S/L and S/L over again... the horrors!

Analysis:

Silver Dragon is a pure battle of attrition with one slight gimmick, his flying phases. His defenses and resistance seems slightly higher than most U bosses, from the videos that I've watched, probably to nerf the fact that he has multiple weaknesses. There's really nothing much that I can say about this boss. Keep your jumps honed, get physical mitigation up, and hammer him to death with wind and ice attacks. Simple as that :P

Teambuilding

RW selection:

Basic RW selection. As Silver Dragon is nearly 100% physical, I highly recommend prioritizing SBs that boost DEF.

SG=SS2>Hastega>Medicas

Abilities:

The abilities that I recommend are fairly obvious. Jumps are very recommended to keep him off his Airborne phases, which is ranged and has increased RES. In addition, Wind and Ice elemental attacks are amazing, as they hit weakness. Remember to bring your physical mitigation, most of you can skip out on the magical mitigation this time.

RMs:

Once again, very standard. Remember to be careful of DEF lowering RMs due to, well, it lowering your defenses :P

Remember to remove your "ability spring" RMs (Concentration, Moon's Grace etc.). They literally do nothing in battles with one level besides wasting a RM slot on your characters.

Recommended Team:

Highly recommend bringing either a physical or mixed teams. Mage teams will struggle with one of the target scores and will most likely have to deal with his Airborne phase with stronger attacks and increased RES.

Bringing multiple healers can be very helpful!!! In addition, the Retaliate Strategy is also incredible, allowing you to avoid that risk of his Counter

Basic Battle Strategies:

Simple battle is quite simple. While he doesn't have a "weak" phase, he does hit relatively hard throughout the battle. You'll just want to hammer him over and over again with powerful elementals, and then wait if you think he's due for another Airborne phase. Launch your Dragoon up immediately and continue the cycle of punishment. Shouldn't be too hard or frustrating S/L Fest, I hope RNGesus will be on your side :)

Good luck! がんばろう!

Final Thoughts:

Very simple stuff and you'll probably forget this Ultimate battle, unless it's like your first Ultimate battle beaten or something. Simple with a simple gimmick. Not too hard either, despite hitting kind of hard.

...that's about it.... Why are you still here? You should do the Idiot's Challenge, no one's being doing it lately ;-;

...please? For me? I won't pay you, if that's what you'll thinking.

I would like to thank u/fattybomchacha for all the information on Silver Dragon's stats and movepool! Be sure to check kongbakpao's website for guides on all events! :D
