Gunnit Rust: Quick and Easy 42mm Matchlock Handcannon.

Hey guys. Borderline shitpost here. I made a Tier I smoothbore muzzle loader out of a steel 10 ton hydraulic cylinder. I started with a bad cylinder and pulled the stop ring out with a spanner wrench. Then I pulled the piston. There is an allen screw at the base that leaves you with a less than ideal but functional touch hole. I used a steel plug to fill the coupler hole. I didn't even loctite it.

Ok so we did some test firing last week. I twisted up black powder in a piece of newspaper and threaded it through the "touchhole". Blackpowder poured into the muzzle. Newspaper wad. High Tech jelly bean projectiles. I used an alcohol soaked cotton ball on a stick to light it. It fired fine but jumped up as we only used a piece of bent rebar to pin it to the ground. In subsequent firing we weighed it down with a cinder block.

The touch hole is clearly too large and the cylinder is too short but the concept proved. 40grains of FFFg and no kaboom. On the downside it was a little too small for the golf balls we really wanted to fire.

You will see this again as we move forward. I think I might mess with this all Summer Rust Season as a teaser.
