Gunnit Rust Tier I: 3D Printed Liberator in .22 lr
tl;dr My project was 3D printing the famous Liberator. However, I didn't like the videos of it blowing up after ~3 shots. So, I barreled in in .22 lr. Here's the album.
I used Google to look for designs, eventually finding the fosscad project. There's a lot in there, and I'd like to try some more of the designs available. I printed a couple parts with lower quality to test the fit and function, then re-printed the rest with higher quality.
A few notes:
- Know the settings on your printer. Print a variety of things to get an understanding of which setting provide the highest quality and strength.
- Don't break the law. It is possible to find designs for NFA items that need to be registered. Also, there is some steel glued into the hollow area under the barrel to make it legal.
- To convert the barrel from .380 to .22, I bought a .22 barrel liner and fit it in the .380 barrel rather than redesigning it. My hope is that it lasts a little longer and doesn't kill me.
- There are no sights on this thing. Combined with a 2 inch barrel, it's a pretty simple point and click interface.
- The hammer and trigger are not so strong or reliable. Once cocked, this thing could go off for like, no reason.
