An Idiot's Guide to the Ultimate Gigantes - The /u/AZYG4LYFE Edition

Guide/Analysis

Welcome back to another Ultimate boss guide! :D

Finally starting to post these on time now that med school is getting a tad bit less troublesome to my schedule.

But first, this is my 15th Idiot's Guide! I would like to thank you all for all the support! X3

Anyways, about the Ultimate Boss itself. Another AoE boss (we'll see two more of these in near future) and they hurt. There's two main strategies to beating it. The battle is also kind of RNG-determined, but it shouldn't be nearly as bad as that Silver Dragon garbage.

Target Scores:

  • Afflict Ice Gigas with Slow.

  • Exploit Fire Gigas’ weakness to ice attacks.

  • Afflict Thunder Gigas with Blind.

Movepool:

All of the Gigantes switch to their Weak phase at about 50%.

  • [Note]: ALL of the Gigantes' magical attacks are NAT (except Ice/Fire/Thunder XIV), and thus ignore Reflect, Runic, Grand Cross etc. (but not Magic Blink).

Ice/Fire/Thunder Gigas [Normal]:

  • Attack: Deals one physical attack to one target. This shouldn't cause too much trouble, but remember 3 thugs are homing in on your party. Thus, you need to keep the mitigation up heavily.

  • Ice/Fire/Thunder XVI: Deals very heavy ice/fire/thunder magical damage to one target. An elemental nuke that can't be negated outside Magic Blink. Once again, I need to emphasize on keeping your defenses up.

  • Boulders IX: Deals moderate NAT ranged physical damage to one target. Again, keep your defenses up as well as each characters' HP.

  • Ice/Fire/Thunder XII: Deals two or three ice/fire/thunder magical damage to one random target. A pretty dick move. This attack can target one character, attack different characters, and so forth. #1 reason to keep everyone's HP up: so you don't get screwed by this attack.

Ice/Fire/Thunder Gigas [Weak]:

  • Retains Attack, Ice/Fire/Thunder XVI, Boulders IX (which is also encountered as a counter as well), and Ice/Fire/Thunder XII (which can now hit 2-5 times, instead of 2-3 times).

  • Ice/Fire/Thunder XIV: Deals heavy ice/fire/thunder damage to ALL targets. Yup, even more damage incoming.

  • Ice/Fire/Thunder Breath XII: Deals heavy ice/fire/thunder damage to ALL targets. I can't tell a difference between this attack and Ice/Fire/Thunder XIV besides one is NAT and the other isn't. Very lazy names, DeNA, even if it was from FF2.

  • Esuna: Removes debuffs from one enemy. I'm 70% sure this is does NOT remove the Slow status. Honestly wastes one turn for the most part, unless the gigantes are trolling you with Boulders or something.

Analysis:

One thing: The Gigantes HURT. This is primarily a survival battle, as you want to kill the Gigantees before they kill you. Their movepool, while actually rather mild, hurts extravagantly as there are three of them. A hard battle, but it gets easier as you kill each Gigas.

Teambuilding

RW selection:

Basic RW selection. Do note that Dreamstage is the optimal Medica if you want to bring one as a RW. Rip Hymn of the Fayth, it's finally outclassed. (No offense to HotF owners)

SG=SS2>Hastega>Medicas

Abilities:

This will differ based on two things: whether you want to YOLO with AoEs or kill them one by one.

AoE: By far the best AoEs are either Yukikaze (Due to Blind proc) or Summons. Of course, other AoEs work as well, but those are btw far the best.

One by One: Anything elemental is amazing. whether it be magical or physical. You also might want to bring some AoE elemental attacks, especially fire and ice. This is for after killing either the Ice or Fire Gigas (which I recommend killing first, since they have less HP). With one Gigas dead, it makes the battle a lot easier, and it will help greatly with killing the remaining 2 gigantes.

Good no matter the strategy you choose: Attacks that Slow and Blind are GREAT at reducing the damage output (Not to mention you need it for the target scores). Obviously, general mitigation is great as well. As there are multiple targets, I highly recommend Dances if you can fit them onto your team. Remember that you need to hit the Fire Gigas with an Ice attack for an target score!!

RMs:

Once again, very standard. Remember to be careful of DEF/RES lowering RMs due to, well, it lowering your defenses or resistance :P

Remember to remove your "ability spring" RMs (Concentration, Moon's Grace etc.). They literally do nothing in battles with one level besides wasting a RM slot on your characters.

Recommended Team:

Pretty much any team is good here. It just depends on the abilities and relics you have. If you can defeat them easier (and complete the target scores), choose that team. This battle is kind of a train wreck due to attacks everywhere lol, so plan accordingly.

Bringing multiple healers can be very helpful in preventing any KOs!!!

Basic Battle Strategies:

Once again, this depends on whether you want to YOLO or kill each one at a time. However, the basic strategy stays the same. KEEP YOUR HP AND MITIGATION HIGH! Then blitz one/all of them down. Good Mitigation and Healing is essential for this battle. Remember that after killing one Gigas, the battle is becomes much easier; you could even say that it's 80% of the battle, killing the first Gigas.

Note that YOLOing will result in a DPS race, since the Gigantes' damage output in the weak phase can easily turn overwhelming!

Good luck! がんばろう! :D

Final Thoughts:

I think this boss will either cause pure RAGE or it'll be a fun HP and Mitigation monitoring game, depending on the player. Just keep your HP and mitigation topped off (#1 Priority) and proceed to hammer the bosses to death! Just remember that the characters are more important than killing the bosses fast (unless you are YOLOing), so heal up if anyone is low on HP!

I would like to thank u/fattybomchacha for all the information on three Gigantes' stats and movepool! Be sure to check kongbakpao's website for guides on all events! :D

An Idiot's Challenge

I have cancelled the Idiot's Challenge, due to multiple reasons regarding my availability and number of participants.

However, I will now be creating the limited runs for u/Palisy's speedrun challenges, so go do those! :P
