[PSA] How to check Karambit corners!
Most people will check Kara corners by loading the game in 4K and taking high res screenshots, then zooming in with Photoshop or similar software. Not only is this very time consuming, but very ineffective if you're checking if a corner is flawless or trying to count how many pixels are missing.
Well, let me propose an alternate path of action; simply use the viewmodel commands to move the Kara corner to the center of the screen, then use the viewmodel fov command to zoom in.
Here is the result. Clearly this is much better for closely inspecting corners!
Doing this is pretty easy. Firstly, add this line to your autoexec:
alias cornerspec "viewmodel_offset_x -7;viewmodel_offset_z 4.5;viewmodel_offset_y 0;viewmodel_fov 4"
These are the viewmodel commands that will center the Kara corner and zoom in the viewmodel.
Then go ingame and type in "sv_competitive_minspec 0". This will unlock the viewmodel commands so they can go past their normal boundaries.
Then type "cornerspec" in the console, and you should be able to see the corner perfectly. If you don't use an autoexec, simply copy-paste the commands in the alias into the console.
EDIT: I forgot to mention: your texture quality MUST be set to medium or higher. If not, small dinks/scratches might not get rendered. (yes, this means you might get a flawless look from your knife by playing on low texure/model quality)
After you're done inspecting/taking screenshots, set sv_competitive_minspec back to 1. Restart CS:GO to reset the viewmodel or re-execute your autoexec if you have custom viewmodel settings stored there.
Side notes:
-
If you want to check someone elses knife, simply start a local server and ask the person you're trading with to join. Set "mp_drop_knife_enable 1" and get the other person to drop the knife to you, and then just do the same as above.
-
If the viewmodel seems to just get really weirdly placed after typing in cornerspec, you forgot to set sv_competitive_minspec to 0.
-
If you want to use Steam's inbuilt screenshot functionality to take 4k screenshots, make sure to change the settings so it's set to save the uncompressed version so you can use that.
-
With a normal viewmodel, having one pixel missing will most likely still mean the corner is 4k flawless.
-
Also note with a normal viewmodel, the inner part of the corner is concealed, so any pixels/scratches here shouldn't count towards the corner being clean/flawless or not.
Got inspired to make this when I saw this. I hope someone finds this useful! :)
