Anyone got any sample shots with a Mamiya 645 and the 80mm 1.9?

I'm interested in the combo and wanted to ask if any of you shot with that setup yet. It's manual focus but I think that you could get some pretty nice results in the slower parts of the day, where you have a bit of time to set things up. I know that Evan shoots MF film sometimes, are you still shooting it, Evan? Anyway, just looking for opinions.

Cheers

I have to talk myself out of buying this setup at least twice a month.

seconded. dayum. and a polaroid back.

The Polaroid back is just a tiny little image on the film though. I think Fuji just discontinued that film too.

true, the size of the frame is cropped because the cameras square format but it can take any standard polaroid peel apart film. You're right that it's discontinued though. still shit loads online to buy up, unlike polaroid 690 for example.

It's a lot more than cropped, it's tiny... this is what an image looks like

I shoot a Mamiya 645 sometimes, but haven't picked up an 80/1.9 yet. The 80 is less of a question than whether or not you actually want to shoot film (based on convenience, costs, time, etc). Ignoring the camera itself, shooting 120 film costs me ~$30/roll after the cost of the film itself, dev/scan, shipping to the lab. It's pricey, but the images are gorgeous, so it's worth it to me to burn off a few occasionally.

I've been developing my own black-and-white and it's so cheap.

This may not be allowed here, but I actually have a few Mamiya 645 Pro TL bodies and the 80mm f/1.9 lens (as well as other lenses and accessories) that I'm looking at possibly selling. If anybody is interested, PM me and I'll give you a good deal.

I have one but haven't used it on a wedding for a long time until recently. I wasn't excited about the scans I just got back and don't have easy access to them on my phone. But here are some images I already had on imgur from a while ago... 1 and 2

Yes!! It's a killer setup. I mostly use the 80 2.8 AF which is nothing to sneeze at, but the 1.9 just kicks it up an extra notch if you have the time to focus manually.

Thanks!

Thank you all for your kind feedback. I guess I'll just go get one and see if it fits my style. :-) Does the 80 1.9 fit on all mamiya 645 bodies?

1

Yes, but its a full manual lens on all bodies.

Yeah, I know, but that's okay.

Oh, it does have focus confirm on some of the AF bodies.

I'm treating the Mamiya as a stepping stone to see if I like the process and somewhat the results. If I do like it, I'll probably get a Contax down the line. So right now I'm just looking to get the best bang for the buck. As far as I know the 645 models without the AF are super cheap compared to AF ones.

check out Mike Radford. He shoots 95% of weddings with this setup.

I've read an interview with him last year, where he says he shoots everything with his contax.

He's a good friend of mine. He has shot a bit with my Contax but I can assure you most of his work is Mamiya :)
