r/TheFence's Song of the Day Database - TCBTS Day 8: You Got Spirit, Kid

You Got Spirit, Kid was the first single released for The Color Before The Sun. It was met to an overall positive reception, but a few fans were disappointed, longing for more of the proggy goodness seen on The Afterman.

The Real: This seems to be a big "fuck you" to all of the people who have put down the band since they began. Not all too much to the imagination, I think anyway.

The Part: Honestly, the whole song is amazing. One of my favorite of the album in my opinion. That awesome little Pink Floyd-y jam at the end is awesome and makes an amazing segue into The Audience. I kinda feel like the line "The Plastic King of Castle Polyethylene," is maybe a homage to the classic Coheed sci-fi prog thing.I'm not sure. I absolutely love the buildup leading up to "Cause nobody, nobody, nobody, nobody no-oh-oh," it always reminds me of the confetti blast they did this past tour.

The Video: Probably one of the best Coheed music videos. Its definitely up their with Domino for my vote. This video is an homage to all the 80's movies the band grew up watching, namely Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The band plays a ragtag group of friends getting revenge on a group of bullies who fucked with Josh. Its pretty damn funny.
