Tyre sizing 29er

This probably will be a common sense question but I just want to make sure.

I've got a 29er that I'm thinking of buying slick tyres for to commute to work. There is a set of 28inch Conti CityContacts for sale and someone mentioned these would fit on 29 rims. Is it me or this just not possible?
