How to relocate from the US to the EU with lots of money

Specifically, does anyone have real practical experience (done it/knows someone who did) about moving from the US to the EU and moving plenty (well, adjusted for inflation, but think $1M) money?

I hear over and over again that this ought to be simple, but every time I look into it, there are more and more barriers in terms of laws and filing requirements.
