Hey guys, honest question. Do you think anime that's getting made now just isn't as good as it used to be?
Before I get a potential barrage of hate I just want to clarify I know what nostalgia is, and the impact it can have on viewing experiences.
Anyways, this has been bothering me for some time now. I find myself becoming more and more distant from anime these days simply because I can't find a show that doesn't appear riddled with, well, the same tropes and cliches that seem to have taken over the current anime "meta".
What has happened to shows that weren't riddled with over the top fan-service, and shallow and predictable story lines? I understand light stories are a thing, and that's totally okay, but it just seems this is all we are really getting these days for the most part. (I gotta same I'm excited for Iron Fortress though)
What happened to shows like Full Metal Alchemist, Gurren Lagann, Hajime no Ippo, Code Geass (I know, fanservice is heavy lol), Ghost in the Shell, etc. etc.
I know this is a very debatable topic, and if you want to educate me, please do! This is just something that has been nagging me for a while. I'm 20 now, and used to watch a lot of anime, really loved it. Now I barely watch it, besides the occasional Ghibli movie and most recently, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Maybe I'm just growing out of it?
Thanks for reading this if you did, looking forward to some conversation if anyone cares!
