Getting a Brompton soon. Single-speed or 2-speed?
I'm saving for a Brompton and I'm finally very close to the goal. I was planning on getting a single-speed but I'm still not 100% sure if I should go for it, or get a safer pick with the 2 speed. I already got a 7-speed dahon if needed so it would feel a bit redundant to get a 6 or 3 speed. And I find the idea of simplicity and freedom of a single-speed very appealing.
My objective is a somewhat light M1L/M2L. Mostly recreational use (I work at home so no commute, unfortunately) or run errands now and then, and hopefully take it with me on planes for trips in the future. As low maintenance as possible (other than it's yearly tune up) and as long-lasting as possible. As close as "just unfold and go/plug and play" type of experience, is what i'm looking for. There aren't that many hilly areas around the places I move around but i wouldn't go as far as saying it's all-flat. I wouldn't mind the extra workout if I found a few hills in my way.
I wanted to hear some testimonials from any single-speed or 2-speed owners around if possible. How have you fared with your bromptons? and is it, in your opinion, that much of a difference between single and 2-speed in performance, weight, and maintenance? Thanks!
