Just played through game 1-3 on my ps4. Random thoughts inside.

Borrowed the Nathan Drake Collection from my brother, since he never touched it and I've been hearing all this about Uncharted being playstation's answer to Halo and such. With the fourth game being super hyped I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Here's what I think:

Game 1: Clearly feels like a typical first game in an ambitious series. Clunky gameplay mechanics, short and not very grand in terms of graphics and scale. Feels like it was made as a try to see if there was any interest in this kind of a series. Similar to Mass Effect 1, where the first game is on a much smaller scale than the following games. Found the puzzles fun, but not a great game in my opinion. Bland story and enviroment. I give it 2/5.

Game 2: Holy shit here is where things turn around. After the first game, they were confident in allocating more resources in the Uncharted series. The story, dialogue and gameplay is all sublime. One of the best story-driven games I've ever played. The feeling of exploration, mystery and magic is fantastic. The humour was also really good, never getting out of hand but more as a way to immerse yourself in the experience. Only downside was that it was too short. The villain is superbly written, and the boss fight at the end had me crying in real life. Just pretty weird that no companion died, especially after blondie "died" at the end. Felt like a good death, almost felt cheated when I found out she survived. But all in all, a very strong 4.5/5.

Game 3: first two hours show potential to greatness. Was like they knew what made Among Thieves great, and decided to improve on those elements. After this, it felt like the main writer of game 1 and 2 quit or something. Directly after getting drugged in Yemen, it loses all track of what Uncharted is about and de-escalates into call of duty. Way after wave of enemies, huge areas to clear and twists that make you feel the knife Naughty Dog has up your bum push even deeper inside. The ship segment, or the plane segment, or the desert segment, or the end game segment... I cant decide which one is worse. All sense of exploration, of wonder in finding long lost civilisations goes right out the window. There is one puzzle in the game after you get drugged in Yemen. I thought this was supposed to be an adventure game. There is no great enemy or boss you need to clear, like sasquatches in 2 or zombies in 1. Just ridiculous amounts of enemies, I only died because I got shot at from five directions at once while getting bombed with rpg's and nades. I actually called my friend over after game 2 since I tought he would enjoy watching the story progress. But there is no story progression. I felt nothing about any event that transpired after the first two hours. This truly is the biggest fuck-you a developer can give a community. I am actually pissed right now, I thought the game would get back to being Uncharted after every stupid fire-fight during the last four hours of the game. But it just carries on to a new stupid fire-fight, and suddenly it just ends. This is easily one of the worst games I've ever played. 1/5.

Uncharted 2 made me believe the hype around the series, and for game 4. It is truly a great game. But one good game of three is not enough to invest me in this series. Similar to Mass Effect, the second game is a masterpiece whilst first and third game are subpar. I wont buy the new game, nor do I understand that there is hype to continue this series after the third game. But to each their own, to those of you that enjoy this series fully I hope game 4 will be a great game.

Just my five cents, I am sorry if I offended anyone but I kind of had to vent somewhere.
