Will gifting (via the pearl shop) ever return?

My boyfriend and I are looking to get a single pet each from the pearl shop. He wants a Hawk (1,100 pearls) and I want a cat. (900 pearls) It all seemed like a well and good idea, $20 for a pet for each of us, with one of our accounts gifting the pet to the other. However, it seems like the gifting feature for the pearl shop has been disabled. This leaves us with three options: Spend $20 on his account, and $10 on mine, knowing full well that we will likely never ever use the remaining 900 and 100 pearls respectively. Wait until gifting is (maybe) re-enabled. Or, buy nothing at all.

Do you guys think gifting could be re-enabled in the future?
