Melee Splashing?

Hey guys I haven't tested this out yet but I had a slayer task to kill desert lizards. They cannot die unless you use a ice cooler on them. They will stay at 1hp and you get 5xp every hit. So if you have a very fast weapon can you just "splash them"? Of course you need desert clothes and water skins. Would this work?
