Real stupid question about slip on exhaust

Hey all!

Hate to bug you with a really stupid question, but for the life of me I cannot find an answer online. I recently got some V&H straight shot slip on's for my 14 Super Glide, and when I was putting them on the header, it seemed like there was a lip on the header that the slip on would not go past. I simply pushed the slip on up to that point and tightened. Is that correct? Does it need to go over that or am I good?

I know, stupid question but I would rather ask a stupid question and look foolish than not ask and have a pipe fall off later :)
