a n00bs first week with Rust...

1st let me just say: I have not had this much fun with a video game since the first few months I played Everquest with a group of friends ~20 years ago. I picked up Rust after seeing a video going around on Facebook- the video in question being the 5-6 clans that cooperatively took down the big dog on the server (B&E I think it was). I watched a few more videos before deciding $20 would be well worth this game even if I get sick of it after the weekend. I had been craving for a difficult game for a while, had tried Dark Souls 2 but frankly- that's not the kinda "hard" i was looking for- having to memorize attack patterns and all that.

So here I am a week into Rust... Initially I started on a rather populated server, was doing okay (watched an hour+ of beginners videos), ventured out a little farther from base to explore one of the landmarks, got killed instantly and was then locked inside my own base (only had 1 key and it was on my corpse) with seemingly no way to get out- I broke all my weapons/tools trying to break the wood door down, had to /suicide out and start over again. I'll spare some details here- I started over several times, each time making another foolish mistake which resulted in my death. I moved to an empty n00b server just to practice my base building, had a pretty rad one built up but then a random guy on the server came along and took advantage of the windows I put up on my 2nd floor- took all my mat's including a ton of BP frags and pages I had been saving up to try to make a "book".

Last night I got my first air-drop finally!! I'm still on my n00b server that has a max of 20-25 ppl on it so far (Astro 3x gather something something), but think by this weekend i'll feel confident enough to switch back to a populated one and give it another go. I still need to figure out how to make bullets and a few other things. So if anyone's looking for a new friendly neighbor/clanmate let me know what server you're on!! I'm trying to get a few buds to pick this game up also.

Any other tips or comments plz let me know. This game is fucking awesome!!
