Bad trigger

[Support] [Question]

I am triggered by many things, but one of the biggest ones is hearing someone insult a person's intelligence (or perceived lack thereof).

For example, at work, if one coworker does something wrong, I may hear another coworker privately say something like, "God, what an idiot. That person is so stupid."

Actually, that happens often at my work. I hear my coworkers secretly talk shit about other coworkers. The words "stupid," "idiot," "r****d," and "dumbass" are thrown around quite often.

I. Cannot. Take. It. It seriously makes me cringe and shrink back. No lie. Hearing such garbage takes me back to some very bad places: shadowy corners and dark rooms in my mind; head down, lump in my throat, eyes stinging with unshed tears, as a chorus of "stupid, worthless, dumb" plays like an old, scratched vinyl. These are places I try not to revisit, where a moment is frozen in time, and the cries of a young girl are stifled by the cacophony of hateful words.

Sure, I refer to people as "stupid and" idiotic." I'm not perfect. But the context in which I use such language is when someone is being ignorant or mean. I know, that doesn't make it okay, but I'd rather hear someone be called "stupid" for saying something ignorant (for example, that homosexuality is a disease) instead of being called "stupid" for making a data entry error at work.

I seriously can't take it, guys. It rips the scabs off of very old wounds that have been trying to heal for decades.

Anyone else? Anyone?

Edited: autocorrect (damn you)
