New Calendar Goals Not Working

I just received the goals update on my Nexus 6, running Android 6.0.1. I have had it on my Nexus 7 for a few days and have had the goals on there working fine. Now that I have it on my phone, I have been trying to add goals there. However, each time it says this is taking longer than we thought, check back later for your goals. But, it never adds the goals. This update also broke the force refresh feature. Once again, only on my phone. When clicking refresh, it brings down the refresh icon and never stops. I don't think it is actually syncing. To try and fix this problem, I have enabled all permissions (didn't think this caused it because it has never asked me to use them). Disabling, enabling and updating.. I have tried updating it through the play store and through an apk download. I have also tried clearing data and cache. I am infact using a gmail account for my goals and like I said, it is running perfectly on my Nexus 7. I can also still create normal calendar events and reminders without a problem. Anyone else have this problem?
