Top Story: President Mattas Announces "Operation: Lightning"

After seeing the United Balkan Republic's recent announcements regarding their military preparations, the Hellenic Republic has decided to follow suit. President Mattas, in a public speech, dismissed the U.B.R.'s accusations of the Hellenic Republic being a "fascist empire":

"Quite simply, the leadership of the United Balkan Republic is completely wrong. WE are not the ones who attempted to invade Romania. WE are not the ones who agree to store nuclear weapons from Eurasia - the sleeping bear, awoken. We are seeing a new era of prosperity in this noble, this most ancient Hellenic Republic. With the industries having been nationalized, employment and efficiency are both at a peak. The work that we do is important - from the highest politician, to the lowest sanitation worker. Each Hellenic citizen is a cog in our mighty machine! Do your job, and do it well, and you will bring a time of great prosperity and renown to our nation. However, you may not slack, you may not be lazy - the machine never stops! Each family member must do their part, especially in this time of war - fathers and mothers, ensure that your children are well-disciplined, and, as a family, never waste! Unfortunately, it is required, given the current state of war that we are in, that parents will have to work longer hours - fear not! In order to provide accommodations for children who would otherwise be at home with no supervision, the government will be creating four new youth programs, so that parents needn't worry about what their children will be doing. This program will be free, payed for by tax money, and is government-operated to ensure the highest degree of care possible. Next, we have our military ventures. The battle against the Slavic dogs of Macedonia goes well! They would have used themselves as a springboard for the United Balkan Republic to invade us - we have not only denied them that, but we have taken half the country already! Though we are short in equipment, they are vastly outnumbered by our noble Hellenic Guard, led by elements of the best of the best, our 1^st Raiders. Soon, Skopje itself will be under our command, and the Slavic 'Macedonians' will no longer be able to claim our history as their own. We were content to let them stew in their valley, but they have incurred our wrath - let us come down upon them as a storm from ancient Zeus! Meanwhile, in Romania, we are consolidating our forces, meeting with the Bulgarian and Romanian armies, before we push into the Carpathians. We pushed the mongrels out of Romania, we will push them back to their capitol city, and we will then grant them parlay. Our navy, our crown, has been completed: the glistening jewel of our fleet, the aircraft carrier Tessarakonteres, along with the rest of our 1^st Mediterranean Fleet, will be meeting with the Italian fleet, along the coastline of Croatia. We will not bend the knee to the United Balkan "Republic"! Our industrious workers have manufactured airplanes, ships, and unmanned drones - these will be utilized in all theaters, with 25 being used in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and the other 75 being deployed at the Serbian-Romanian border. Able to carry a missile on each wing, and with the most modern surveillance technology available to us, we will easily spot our enemies and wipe them clean off of our board. Long live our Republic, and long live Hellas!"

The government has since released multiple supplementary materials to the public regarding their youth programs:

The Agogian Youth - The youth organization for males aged 6-12, the Agogian Youth centers on providing an equally balanced physical and educational experience for developing young minds. With physical activities likes hiking, participating in parades, and even trips to see the Hellenic Parliament and training exercises for the Federal Police! Education is also an important facet of the Agogian Youth, with classes including Hellenic history, culture, local ecology, and basic survival skills! For the older boys, they will utilize their survival skills in camping trips to the Voras Mountains!

Lycurgian Band - This group for older boys, ages 13-18, will focus more on intensive physical and educational programs. Including more rigorous hikes and camping trips, hunting, fishing, local humanitarian efforts, serving as flagbearers and honor guards to local politicians during parades, and sailing, the Lycurgian Band focuses much more on raising healthy, hearty young men. Meanwhile, the educational programs match the physical programs in rigorousness: more in-depth analyses of all Hellenic classes offered to the Agogian Youth, more intense survival training, martial arts training, and firearms safety and instruction are some of the few courses offered through the Lycurgian Band.

Delian Daughters - The female counterpart to the Agogian Youth, the Delian Daughters focuses on general education, fomal etiquette, and home economics. Delian Daughters may hold drives for charitable causes, take care of a shelter animal as a collective, or perform a choral arrangement at a retirement home. In addition, Delian Daughters are encouraged to go outside and exercise, and races with prizes are held four times a year.

Ladies of Lyceum - The Ladies of Lyceum, the female counterpart to the Lycurgian Band, amplify the values and skills taught in the Delian Daughters, while focusing on charitable acts throughout the community. Holding bake sales, performing as an orchestra or choir for the locals, hosting a fundraiser, or passing out government pamphlets from door to door. Of course, the physical aspects are brought up as well: Ladies of Lyceum are instructed in good footrace form, swimming, and gymnastics, as well as self-defense fighting. Races are held 4 times a year, with swimming and gymnastics competitions being held twice a year.

Furthermore, the Hellenic Armed Forces has released a campaign map, showing vague battle plans for the Mediterranean Alliance in the future (http://imgur.com/87BmxYa). In the map, it shows the newly-opened Western Front being pushed in by Italian forces, with Italian forces in Montenegro setting up defensive positions (shown by the square), waiting for the Hellenic-Romanian-Bulgarian forces to push through Serbia, and for the Hellenic forces in the F.Y.R.O.M.to finish their duties there, so that they may reinforce the army in Serbia. To finish it off, the Hellenic Republic has proposed that, instead of bombing the coast, Italy, the Hellenic Republic, and Turkey form a blockade where the yellow line is, not allowing military or trade ships through, and only allowing in humanitarian ships after being searched.

Finally, the Hellenic Armed Forces issued an offer late today, being extended to Germany, Canada, Italy, and the American Federation:

"Greetings, most valued of allies. The Hellenic Republic, although strong, has one weakness - a lack of suitable military equipment. We are looking to buy small quantities of high-end tank, APCs, jet fighters, and bombers, while we acquire funds to produce our own. We are willing to lease or buy these vehicles, and the sooner the offers are received, the better."
