How to exploit your opponent's doubled pawns?

I always feel good when I force my opponent to mess up his pawn structure and create doubled pawns, but I feel like I am not exploiting it as much as I should. What should you aim to do after you create doubled pawns? Just attack them? Put a minor piece in front of them so they can't progress?

Thanks.
