YPG and the FSA organization

How long did it take to organize the YPG when it first appeared into a unified fighting force? Also, what kept the FSA from developing into a coherent fighting force like the YPG and also, is it still possible for the rebels or any new faction to develop itself into an organized force like the YPG?
