Question regarding MRSA decolonization process
My Doc prescribed me 2% muripocin nasal ointment, as well as oral antibiotic bactrim twice a day as well as 1% triclosan body wash.
I've read a whole bunch of decolonization protocols for MRSA, and most of the processes say that it would take 5 days... My doc wants me to be on this antibiotic course for 10 days which seems unusually long...
Should I do the avg 5 days worth or should I go by what my GP told me to do? Would 10 days be too much?
I was originally on cephalexin for almost 2 weeks until the GP realised I've been infected with MRSA, and he told me to switch to bactrim immediately, so I've been on it for 3 days now, another week to go... I fear that I might make it easier for bacteria to become resistant in the future since I've been taking antibiotics for so long... Am I just worrying over nothing?
If I get a recurring infection, will I have to undergo this antibiotic course again? I'm also really worried about the future, if I ever get hospitalized, will I have to mention I was infected with MRSA? Will I be get infected by MRSA if say I ever get hospitalized and need surgery? I've read that MRSA is endogenous and I can get infected by it if I become immunocompromised. Do decolonization processes eradicate all of MRSA or will it just reduce it to a threshold that will prevent me from having visible symptoms?
Just worrying about the future...
