TIFU by rev bombing a cop.

This is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever done that I can recall, and it just happened 15 minutes ago.

I recently bought an '09 M3 Coupe and installed some test pipes + tune yesterday. It's pretty loud and it backfires explosively when you downshift or quickly shut the throttle.

As I was heading home today I passed an alley perpendicular to me, glanced over, and saw a cop about to pull out. One of those times where you can't see them until they're directly beside you.

This took me by surprise and because I had just dropped a gear and still had my fingers on the left paddle, in a moment of sheer panic and confusion, I quickly pulled the paddle twice and let out two of the most ear-shatteringly loud downshifts I've ever heard the car produce all while maintaining eye contact with a very unhappy looking police officer. It then proceeded to backfire & crackle for the next hundred feet while I contemplated how much my insurances rates would be going up.

Immediately, he pulls out right behind me on my bumper for the next 3 blocks while I'm just waiting for the lights. To my absolute astonishment, he guns it and passes me on my right at about 80mph.

I've been pulled over for much less than that before, so I'll never understand how I came away clean. That guy must have thought I was an absolute moron.

Anyone else have some there's literally no way I'm not getting a ticket for that stories?
