[Update] DEAD Nikon D610

As I posted in an earlier thread, my D610 was having issues with its shutter and mirrorbox.

This started occurring at appropriately 75,400 actuations on March 31st, 2016.

Yesterday on April 13th, 2016, my D610 completely failed on me in the middle of a shoot at 84,680 actuations.

Opening the camera for inspection, I can clearly see that the shutter curtain is mangled, and I don't have the technical expertise to fix it.

As previously mentioned, I cannot send the camera in to Nikon for repairs, as it is grey market and they won't look at it.

Does anyone know what causes the shutter curtains to tear and die? u/dislikedwiseacre mentioned that his D750 suffered the same fate; I'd like to prevent this happening in the future if possible.

Also, does anyone have any DIY guides on how to manually replace the shutter of a Nikon D610, or have experience doing it?

Or is it best to send it in to a local third-party repair shop? If so, does anyone know any good repair shops local to Los Angeles?

Thanks!!
