Surface Pro 4 and Xournal?

I am about to buy a Surface Pro 4 (just returned a Spectre X360 to Best Buy because the stylus was horrible) and I need to use Xournal. So my plan is to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows.

I absolutely need Xournal to work. Not the alternatives, since I already have a lot of .xoj files. I understand that Linux on SP4 is work in progress, so I am asking is anyone here using Xournal's Windows version? How does it work: pen, palm detection, etc? How does it work if I run (say) Ubuntu through VirtualBox (or an alternative)? Any experiences on different ways to use Xournal on SP4 would be very welcome.
