Why were the wars in 1800s Europe more economical and colony-based more than the centuries preceding and following it?

Discussion/Question

The turn of the century started out interesting, a daring general takes the place of Emperor in France and the Napoleonic wars last nearly two decades, and then all of a sudden everything is based around trade wars and colonizing weaker African or Asian countries.
