Emperor Laugier Implements Religious Reform in Nantes

The Emperor visited the City of Nantes and, along with the Head Ruler of the Region of Pays de la Loire drafted a document regarding the religious status of the nation of France. The location was chosen “because of its historical connotations to religious status in France, and because it represents the religious freedom of France”.

The two rulers decided on the “Deuxième Édit de Nantes” which was published and validated by the Emperor on July 4th. The new document on religion in France states the following (shortened) points under four articles which will be added to the Imperial Constitution on July 12th:

######Article 1

• The Official and Only Religion of France shall be Catholic Christian. Although political rights for Protestant Christians shall still be high to moderately high.

• The Catholic Church has the right to buy land from the French Government under the following conditions:

• The Land is Used for Educational, Religious and/or Recreational Purposes

• The Catholic Church Pays Bimonthly Taxes Rate of 0.55 (5.5%) for the Use of Land.

######Article 2

• The Church shall be treated as a person rather than an Institution Under French Law

• The Church shall be able to choose Archbishops for each Région to Co-Rule (along with The Head Ruler) the Région.

######Article 3

• Archbishops, as co-rulers, can have a political voice in the legislative branch of the French Government.

• A Council for Archbishops shall be established within the French Empire to replace the National Assembly

######Article 4

• France and its Government shall ensure that the Official Religion is widespread in Metropolitan France and its consecutive territories.

• All Government Officials shall be required to be Catholic Christian, if otherwise, they shall not be able to apply for a Political Position nor be appointed by the Emperor.

This law is extremely worrying for the Protestant, Buddhist, Muslim, and Jewish Communities of France which shall all see a decrease of rights and a probable mistreatment by Politicians and Police Forces, as was seen when these communities protested all over the country.

This law shall also affect many relationships the nation has with non-Catholic Nations around Europe and in Other Continents, and because of this, the Popular Assembly has been forming an army out of recruits and influencing many Archbishops to fight for their cause which would finally bring back French Ideals of Equality, Secularity, Liberty and Fraternity to our nation.
