Space Engineer's Handbook for the Sir's

Tips and tricks

So I remember helping out with a couple other guys' when they streamed space engineers and our advice seemed to help, So I thought I'd post here after the latest episode. Feel free to leave other tips for them or leave me abuse (pls no.)

  • Build a small platform with a solar array and a battery - Maybe two, You're talking around 6 solar panels per battery to power the place. - Another trick, you can hook these solar arrays up onto a rotor so they get the best possible sunlight! 4 Green lights on each panel are the best.

  • Each solar panel produces 75mw per one (rounded down variable) so the previous statement accounts for you still using the small reactor from the atmospheric lander. This reactor will help get your batteries and panels into their correct day/night cycle - Batteries at night, Solar panels by day.

  • Remember to expand the solar array as you keep expanding your base!

  • Get your refinery and assembler on that platform - Small trick you can do - If you use merge blocks you can merge your atmospheric lander with the platform you make to turn it into a permanent base... I would recommend this, as that atmospheric lander may not be used any more, Grind down the Atmospheric thrusters for spare parts (Save the motors for your own flying ships.)

  • Once you have a functioning base, get a steady stream of supplies in (ores and such) Attach an Ore detector to it so you can search for these. I Would highly recommend a rover with a rotor system placed on top of the rover so you can flip it back over (Rovers like to flip in this game) for such a task.

  • Build defences for the dogs.

  • Look into finding an Ice Lake - This will be needed to leave the planets atmosphere later as you will need hydrogen thrusters (good to get the resource early.)

  • Take your helmet's off on Earth - It has oxygen!

  • When building your first ships on Earth, Make sure they are small ships, use WAAAY less resources and don't attach an Air-Vent to your first ship, just use your helmet inside there for now (they are air tight, hence earth air cant get in) The air vent uses so much power for a first ship.

  • Also, weight means a lot now you are on a planet. So when you've built a flying mining ship, Make sure it has enough thrusters to take off with the additional weight its gained. (Damn Stone)

  • Ejectors can sort your stone problem.

  • When searching for ore on a planet, the veins for said ore can be found under darkened soil on the ground, so the grass, ice or rocks look a lot darker to their surrounding areas, generally means lots of ore! Saves you time, so you don't have to mine in random areas - a birds eye view on the land helps a lot but you can easily spot the colour change from the ground.

  • Right clicking with a drill mines out a large area fast but yields no resource - whereas left click drops the resource but is slower and smaller - applies to both the hand drill and drills of ships.

  • Depending on the world type you've selected there may or may not be a pirate base, so be careful.

  • Make some goals to work for, Heading back to the moon? Space Station?

  • Conveyor Systems will save your life.

  • Warheads are an explosive block with timers...^Smith

  • You can override a Gyroscope or Thruster through the Control Panel...^Smith

This guide does not endorse Trolling.

I hope this helps Sirs, I'm sure I've forgotten some stuff but ah well.

Edit2: Clarity.
