Switching areas of service in the librarian field.
Hello everyone! I currently work as a copy cataloger at a university library. I don't have my library degree yet, but I plan on getting one. My position is temporary and my contract end date is fast approaching, but I may be offered a permanent position in the circulation department which would allow me to start working on my MLS. I enjoy the cataloging side of librarianship, but I think gaining experience in circulation would be useful if I ever wanted to go into library administration. I'm concerned though about working in circulation for a few years and then going back to cataloging once I get my degree. Would taking a few years off from cataloging make it difficult for me to obtain a cataloging job down the road, or would the cataloging and circulation experience work in my favor? Thanks in advance for the replies!
