General info about women's shelters/help for families facing possible homelessness.
Hello, I work in hospitality and sadly one of the issues I keep facing is having employees telling me they need to resign because they're having issues with housing, several of them telling me they've been living in cars. I usually try to tell them that NOT working is probably not the best start to that problem and give them the time off they need but sometimes it looks like they're overwhelmed and don't come back or quit anyways.
Don't want to get into the whole employer thing because a lot of these ladies are temp labor so I know they're SOL and a lot of temp agencies aren't going to do much for them. I've asked my HR people and haven't gotten a whole lot of response back about what we can provide, usually if they've been employed less than a year they don't qualify for FMLA or LOA or anything and that's that -_- Basically I want to put something together so when this happens again I can help these ladies out a bit in terms of what they need to do. Whether it's a list of places to call or locations they can turn to or heck even another employer that works specifically with people in these situations.
I'm relatively new to the city, well like 2-3 years but I don't get out much so I still claim new since I don't know where anything is and what not. If anyone has any basic info to get me started it would be appreciated!
