I've worked in CAP2 for only three days. Yesterday I worked so hard that I hallucinated when I got home...

First day was fine. I was having a horrible panic attack on the drive to work (had one the whole weekend before, actually) but was fine once I got into the physical work. There was no GM truck, we just worked grocery.

Second day, woke up pretty sore and tired. Understandable, it's a physically demanding position, and I had spent the previous two weeks of unemployment sitting on my butt, so of course I was out of shape. Helped unload my first GM truck, which was a lot harder than the previous day. No major issues, though.

Third day, oh God. Woke up so sore I thought my body would fall apart as soon as I got out of bed. I have a wife and children to provide for, so calling out wasn't going to happen. And besides, what kind of schmuck calls in sick on the third day??

I knew I was in deep shit when I punched out for lunch. I had stopped sweating and felt chilled, despite drinking four bottles of water. I drank a lot more during lunch, but had no appetite at all. I ate a couple of goldfish and that's all I could handle. I spent the rest of my lunch hour trying to keep my head up and debating on whether I should just go home... but that would be half a call-out, right? Can't have that... back to work.

I should have gone home when it took me over an hour to work a small cart of condiments. My legs were screaming and my arms felt like jelly. I just kept repeating to myself that I was doing this job for my wife and kids. That's what kept me going.

When the time to punch out mercifully came, I drove home and stumbled into the door. Wife and kids were already asleep (did I mention how sad it is that I don't see my kids on this shift), I start to get ready for bed when I hear rock music coming from my room. The baby's room is right next to ours, why on earth is that woman playing rock music?! I go in and can still hear it, but it's less distinct.

It was the tabletop fan. I heard the hum as rock music.

Heard it the whole time I tried to eat some bread for dinner and actually had a hard time falling asleep because of it. Well, between that and the chills that didn't quite seem to go away despite drinking enough water to piss like a racehorse.

I called in sick today and feel ashamed for it, but in hindsight I pushed myself way too far and was probably a safety hazard because of it.
