Question: Salary payments and Deposit Insurance
Hi, I attended a talk recently which discussed issues with Deposit Insurance and a speaker talked about a case which involved a bank in the middle of administration.
The issue was a company that had deposited the salaries of their employees in preparation for disbursement. Under depoist insurance rules, the first X of each account was insured, but figures above X would receive a claim against the estate of the closed bank for the remaining sum -X which is not insured.
This of course resulted in a lot of unhappy employees (thousands) because not only did they not get their weekly salary paid into the (now closed) bank they had to wait for the liquidation process to complete (which could take a while) and would get only a portion of their salary.
I would like to do some personal research and would like to know more about this case. Does anyone know any articles related to such or which bank and company the speaker was talking about?
