Can We Talk About the Most Ridiculous Logic Present in the 1.1 Update Roll-Out?
I, like many others, was happy with the stated goals of the 1.1 Update: craft less, drop more. But last night I went back and read their post on crafting changes. Massive stated the following:
“By changing the conversion rates, we will encourage players to use their low level materials while they are leveling up, instead of saving them until they reach level 30.”
This sentence gives me deep, deep concern for the future of this game. Massive is arguing that, by making the things people want more expensive, they will entice people to save up less. Any sane new player starting today who hopes to one day reach endgame is going to look at the crafting lists and note (just as we all did when it was still relatively cheap, mind you) that rolling the ‘good’ gear is going to cost ALOT of Mats, and start scrimping and saving immediately. The exact opposite of Massive’s goal, and they don’t even realize it.
The only other explanation is that they hope that a new player looks on their future prospects with despair and gives up on getting to the endgame gear rolling all together. That’s what you want to inspire in your new players, right?
