is the Firelink Shrine fog something to be worried about?

So whenever I teleport straight to Firelink Shrine I get this fog at the exits that doesnt allow me to exit, so if I want to climb the tower I have to teleport to where the first boss was and walk there, which is stupid because I have to walk inside the shrine anyway. Is that because something is happening or is it standard for it to be that way?
