Finding tartan fabric that is affordable

Last minute plan for us to go to the highlander event weekend at the GA renfaire and I wanted to get fabric for Clan McLeod (Harris/Skye) since my family is from Scotland on my dad's side. I was hoping to find some thing in the 10$ give or take per yard range but its all 25+ Is there some where else I can look? I wanted to make a skirt, a "kilt" for a 3 yr old, and a scarf for me. I need about 3-4 yards. :/
