Nexus or Moto Phones still worth getting?

I like the idea of Nexus phones and the stock android of Moto phones, are any of them worth looking into? I'm just wondering if I should wait for them to release anything new. I am looking at the Nexus 5X or Moto X.

Looking for stock-ish Android around $300-500 that will work on AT&T US, smaller screen the better (will consider anything not a phablet however)
