How to make summer outfits more interesting?

The summer is approaching and I live in NJ so it can get pretty hot during the summer. I usually end up wearing just shorts and a tee shirt every single day. I feel like these outfits are a little boring and can't imagine wearing these all summer. I can't really wear much more or layer anything because it can be so hot. How can I make these outfits more interesting? What do you like to wear when it's hot out?
