What do I do? 1995 Liberty troubles

Recently I purchased the Liberty as both my first car and the car I would learn to drive manual in. The drive home was excellent but since I've had my first attempt at driving it (I stalled a few times) it has fits of skipping revs while driving and revving on its own when idling. it also stinks like its burning too much petrol.

Overnight it seemed to right itself but since my second attempt at driving today it seems to be even worse, and my mother, who is teaching me, had a rather scary drive home. What do I do guys, is this something simple or am I screwed?
