How did you cope with your SO being sent off to the air force?

My boyfriend is going to basic in about a month, and I'm really anxious about all of it. It's not that I have a problem with long-distance relationships, I just have really bad anxiety as it is and knowing he could potentially be signing his life away makes it a lot worse. Did anyone else have this fear? If so, how did you cope with it?
