Is Assassin's Creed Chronicles any good?

So, I have never played ANY of the Assassin's Creed games but this one got my attention because 1.It's on the Vita, and 2.It looks like a cool stealth-action 2d platformer. So, for someone who has never played any of the AC games before, do I need to know anything before playing this? Is it actually worth it 40$ for the Trilogy?

Also, since we're already talking about AC, is AC3:Liberation any good? I really wanna play some games that aren't JRPGs so I'm open for suggestions.
