Is it possible to play multiplayer with tModLoader?

I can see a tModLoaderServer.exe in my Terraria folder and I've tried making a server with it and joining from the same computer. It never gave me an ip so I assumed I just had to enter my router's ip but I was unable to join anything. I don't actually know if multiplayer works properly with tModLoader.

I've tried googling for the answer but I wasn't able to find anything recent and concrete.
