License expires after 2 years, when I was cis it was 5 years

I realized my license expires on my birthday of this year, but I got my new license with my changed name and gender only 2 years ago and before that, I had renewed it a year prior to having the name and gender change.

I was just wondering if anyone else experienced something similar, I am in California and it seems rather odd for me to get a new license that expires two years from the point of getting it, when in California it is usually every 5 years. I wonder if it is because I'm trans and had my gender changed in the system and they are keeping track of me. Any thoughts?
