Thoughts on Ghosting

I recently purchased an old Yorkshire Deluxe straight bulldog from an antique store and after doing an intensive sniff test I realized the previous owner had obviously used it for aromatics. So did the usual ream, sand, alcohol and salt bath, etc. and was pleased with the results. No trace of anything sweet! Nice, this might become a dedicated English pipe.

A few weeks ago I loaded it with some Dunhill 965 and that was one of the best smokes I've ever had. No trace of sweet: just smokey, leathery, campfire goodness.

Fast forward to tonight. After a particularly shittastic day I decided to again have some 965 in my bargain briar, and considering it's a chilly 70°F here in North Texas, 965 sounded perfect. All was great until I got the last third of the bowl and BAM! Syrupy, peachy ghost appeared.

At first I was pissed, but I decided to power though the last of the bowl. Even though Peachy Ghost was not invited it suddenly made sense. In my mind I was camping in the middle of woods: the 965 was the campfire, and the ghost was the peach cobbler bubbling away in the dutch oven.

So obviously ghosting is not ideal, but when it comes up somehow make the best of it.

Thank you for reading this, and if anyone needs me I'll be off making a peach cobbler.
