Snapdragon 810 after the buzz
After watching multiple comparisons of the new SD820 powered devices of 2016 being compared to each other, I've also noticed that many of the new phones are still being compared to the Nexus 6p, today.
Flipping back almost a year ago today. The Snapdragon 810 was constantly ridiculed and thrashed for being a terribly inefficient chipset. Running too hot and being constantly thermal throttled just to stay comfortable enough to hold. Most complaints came from the v1 chipset found on the HTC One M9. Then an updated chipset took the place for newer phones of 2015, such as the Sony Xperia Z5 and the Nexus 6p.
Reviews of those phones were much more positive with the new 810. Especially the 6p, as it performed so well that no one mentioned the fact an "inefficient" 810 was under the hood. Was the chip really that more efficient? Or were the original reviews of the 810 blown out of proportion?
I currently own a Droid Turbo 2. I love this phone. It is also packing a SD810. And my reviews of performance are nothing less of astounding. It's fast. Lag free for the most part. And the battery life isn't that bad at all. It never gets overly warm (compared to my Xperia Z3v, which could get uncomfortably hot at times. The camera would always fail to open because the device was too hot.) So, I do not see the negatives of the 810 like r/Android claimed it was plagued with.
I see many other SD810 owners having good experiences with their phones. And I wouldn't mind recommending this phone, or any other 810 devices to anyone. The Nexus 6p is an awesome device and it's affordable. I wouldn't let the fact it has an SD810 deter someone away.
So, was the 810 truly the flop people claimed it to be? Because, in my experience with it so far, I believe it has proved itself to be a fantastic chip. And I've enjoyed my use with it so far.
