Really tough decision on a small budget
My girlfriend and I have been looking for a car for a month now and we're having a hard time finding something that suits our budget. We're in Canada and our budget is $5000 tax and any repairs included ideally.
We've now found two fairly decent deals and were wondering which one overall would be better value.
Ford Focus 2010 SE, 175,000 km - $3900
Power windows and locks, fog lights, spoiler, hardly any rust and a small crack in the front bumper. Dealer is willing to throw in a year guarantee on engine and transmission.
Toyota Corolla 2004 CE, 128,000 km - $3000
Power windows and locks, Visible rust above the back tires (maybe 2 inches).
We called our mechanic today because we were going to get the Focus inspected but he immediately said "No, don't get a Ford, you'll be here constantly for repairs!". That's not really something I expected and now we are second guessing the decision and leaning more towards the Corolla.
Can anyone share any insight on which one stands out, if any? I'm looking for any opinions on longevity, quality, fun, even style. I'd also like to know why our mechanic was so against the Focus... I'm really starting to get burnt out from hopping from dealer to dealer.
Thanks in advance!
