Just got my G5 today. Some thoughts.
Hi, r/lgg5! I just got my phone in the mail today. I've formed a first impression and just thought I'd share.
First and foremost, I want to give a little bit of a disclaimer - I don't know a whole lot about phones. All I know is what I like and dislike, so take this with a grain of salt.
Anyway. I switched to the G5 from a Galaxy S5. I got the phone directly from T-Mobile in that nice gold color. Right out of the box, I did a few checks on the body of the phone to see if certain complaints about the build would pertain to my device. My findings were:
- My fingerprint scanner/unlock button was not loose or rattle-y. There is a bit of give when you put your finger on the button without pressing it but it feels securely attached to the body. I can't hear it shaking around or anything when I move the phone.
- There is a small - miniscule, really, not even a millimeter - gap between the battery chin and the body. With a case on, you wouldn't even be able to notice.
- The body doesn't feel like plastic or aluminum, really. The matte texture of the primer gives it a feeling similar to aluminum, but not quite. It's somewhere in between the two.
After turning on the device and getting it all booted, the first thing I did was install a backlight bleed test app. My device has no bleeding, not even in the lower right corner like many G5s have. I currently have the home keys set to white on black background and it looks uniform all the way across.
Transferring data from my old S5 to my new phone via LG Backup took a little over a half hour. I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I attributed it to the large amount of files being transferred.
I haven't decided whether or not I like the LG Android skin. The lack of app drawer isn't as devastating as I thought it'd be - all my apps are organized in folders on one page, with all my widgets on another. I'd like to try some other launchers just to see if I like them better, but for now this is fine.
All in all I like this phone. It's a lot faster than my S5, as far as I can tell, the battery life is worlds better, and it's just a nice experience. I'm not expecting it to be the best phone I've ever owned, and I'm sure I'll form new opinions after some more use, but it made a good first impression.
TL;DR, Has been a good phone for 12 hours now, hoping for more.
