My[18F] mom[39M] is completely against me moving out. I'm starting to feel unsure/guilty.

Non-Romantic

I've posted here before, and I am once again, totally lost.

I'm reaching the end of my senior year. My friend[19M] and I have been talking about getting a little two bedroom together somewhere in town. I was trying to talk my boyfriend[19M, together 3 1/2 years] into moving in with us because the rent would be much cheaper.

My boyfriend comes from some serious money and is on a trust fund through his college years (that covers any living costs including groceries.) He really wants to live downtown and is on some waiting lists and has made connections with a few leasing managers.

He suggested a really good idea that would benefit everyone involved. He said he would be more than willing to split rent 50/25/25 since he wouldn't being paying rent directly out of his pocket. We're looking at something around $1000. I would be spending a little over 30% of my monthly income.

I've brought the idea up to my mom and she is more than opposed. She thinks it's stupid for me to move out if I don't have to, but I've always been an extremely independent person and it just seems like the logical next step for me. My therapist even wholeheartedly agreed with me.

A year ago I was discussing moving out with my parents and it was totally a case of "well you'll be an adult you can make your own decisions." But now anytime I mention living somewhere else my mom flips out and constantly lectures me. She tells me that my dad and her almost divorced multiple times because they were so stressed from going through college. I don't know if I should trust her examples though. My parents got married because their parents were going to basically disown them if they moved in together before marriage. My parents were also dealing with raising children and addiction through college. The situation was not good.

But she's my mom, I can't help but think maybe there's some truth to it. I'm obviously concerned about handling the expenses, but my friend moved out of home directly out of high school and attending a state school whereas I will be attending a community college. She's said that it's helped her handle money a lot better and she's never had any serious issues besides being occasionally short on money for leisure.

This probably isn't really the place to ask, but I guess I just need to know who's opinion I should listen to, if this isn't something I should do, I need to know now.

TL;DR Planning on moving out, my mom is INSISTING that it's a horrible idea. Don't know who to believe. I just need advice.
