[Calculus] Optimization
Basically, i have to optimize 3 shapes, a cylinder, a rectangular prism, and a triangular prism so that the surface area is no more than 600 ft squared, and has to fit into a 8 ft by 10 ft space (third dimension is not specified), using area and volume formulas, secondary equations, and derivatives.
I know how to use a secondary equation and find a derivative, but i am not sure on how to apply these dimensions (i.e. 600 sq. ft and 8x10) to figure it out. If it helps, formulas: cylinder area= 2πrh+2πr^2 cylinder volume= πr^2h rec. prism area= 2(lw+hl+hw) rec. prism vol.= lwh tri. prism area= 1/2bhl tri. prism vol.= bh+3lb So, where would i substitute the variables (600, 8, 10) or which variables would i solve for to use as a secondary equation, for each shape, to find all the dimensions? Any help would be enormously appreciated, thanks.
