Is networking on PC just bad or is it me?

Online is some of my favorite stuff in this game. Invading, dueling, jolly cooperation, fight clubs- I love all of it. It's been pretty rough for me to initiate any of it though. 99.999% of the time I activate a soapstone, it just pops up with "Unable to summon phantom" and a good portion of my invasions pull up a connection error that immediately sends me back to my own world.

Even when I do manage to connect with someone, they stutter and hover all around the ground, with no discernable animations (which makes punishing rolls hard and dodging and parrying attacks functionally impossible). I assume that since the game is new that the online isn't great and the servers are loaded that it's causing some issues, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about the online fun so I can't be sure.

Is it just my computer/network acting up, or do I just have to wait for an update to fix this before I get to have my fun? Thanks in advance
