Passed WIFUND 200-355!
First time posting, but I thought I would create an account and provide some feedback on the WIFUND 200-355 exam, as I could hardly find any during my studies.
I originally started reading the old CCNA Wireless book for fun because I honestly did not know the first thing about wireless besides setting up crappy home router/access points, and messing around with an older WLC and a single AP during an assignment during college (which I could never get to work properly). After reading through it I decided I might as well try for the exam, but did not feel I would be ready for the exam before it would stop being offered this past December. I then ordered the Official Cert Guide for WIFUND 200-355, and read through it while taking notes. I went through my notes twice, created a OneNote with all of the exam objectives, and answering them all with sections from my notes or from searching online. I also did the practice exams and went through all of the flash cards with the Pearson Exam Engine Software.
For hands-on experience, I had an old 4402 WLC and a 3502i AP I got off eBay for really cheap and set them up at home with my switches. I also had the opportunity to go through our 2504 WLC's at work, and even setting one up from scratch. I was pretty fortunate my company has a couple Meraki cloud-based AP's that I could go through the configurations on too.
So after all of that, I passed with an 868 out of 860 (haha I know cutting it close), but I thought that I did better than that. Without breaking the NDA, I thought I would share my feelings about the exam. This exam was way different than the exams required for the CCNA R/S. It seriously felt like a game of trivia. With at least half the questions, I felt the exam designers were thinking "I hope you picked up on this little bit of random information". I finished the exam with I think 45 minutes of the 90 left, I flew right through it.
Anyway, my advice for this exam is really read up and pay attention to all the little details in the OCG, even things that may seem pointless. I think it may be possible for someone to pass this exam without actually ever touching any of this equipment, but actually being able to use the equipment probably gave me that little extra knowledge that helped me just barely pass. Also, I never had a chance to use Cisco Prime Infrastructure, I just tried to memorize as much of it described in the book and doing some research on it online. I know a big caveat that came up in forums on taking the previous exam was that it focused heavily on the software that was out before PI.
So, moral of the story is the WIFUND 200-355 is a passable exam if you put the time into it, as I am sure I had over 100 hours into studying for it. Having really no background in using Cisco wireless gear until I started studying for it (just received access to the wireless gear at work starting this past January), I was able to pass. I didn't even have a basic concept of the fundamentals of radio waves, it was really all new to me. I certainly learned a lot from it, and feel that it was worth the time and effort I put into it.
